Andrei "Unchained' Mikhailovich Contnues Winning Streak
CTP Boxing’s “Boxing is Back” event took place at the ABA stadium on 11 July.
Gunnar Jackson, recently retired former top 10 in the world, set the scene with two exhibition bouts, against Amit Ali and Allen Wycoco respectively. Pro boxer, Lui Teo, was the third exhibition match, fighting for the first time in 2 years, taking on extremely experienced Joseph Nagatalevu Jnr, followed by an explosive corporate undercard resulting in 2 knockouts.
The co-main event of the night was a professional lightweight bout, between Raihau Lehartel, from City Kickboxing, and Aung Sanda.
This was Raihau Lehartel’s second professional bout. Lehartel is from Tahiti, and trains out of City Kickboxing under Coach Doug Viney. His opponent, Aung Sanda, hadn’t been in the ring for 9 years, took the fight on 4 weeks notice, replacing Raihau’s original opponent Shivnal Kumar.
Sanda was training by himself for the bout, prior to coach Chris Martin hearing about his training and joined Sanda to help him train for his match against Raihau.
After 4 rounds, the match was called a majority draw.
Main event featured professional super middleweights Dylan ‘Heavy Hands’ Wright and Andrei Mikhailovich (Peach Boxing).
Already having met twice in the amateur ranks this was for bragging rights as both fighters went toe to in an exciting back and forth battle. Dylan, living up his name, with heavy hands to the body proved not enough to outpower NZ champion and one to watch Andrei ‘Unchained’ Mikhailovich.
With a successful ‘Boxing is Back’ event, and sport slowly going back to normal, promoter Craig Thomson (CTP Boxing) has an exciting line-up of events planned for 2020 with No Way out on the 22nd of August at the SportsCave in Whangaparoa.
