Judgement Day Berridge vs Taihia

It’s less than a few weeks away till Robert Berridge defending him NZPBA Title against long time rival Adrian Taihia.  This fight has been 5 years in the making since both have debuted at similar times of their career, Taihia in WWE style called out Berridge in the ring and fights that have been scheduled between the two not ending up happening due to injury.

Robert Berridge (28 - 5 - 1) is a current New Zealand Light Heavyweight Champion (NZPBA Version) and a former WBC ABC, WBO Oriental, WBA - PABA and IBO Oceania champion. In June 2015, Berridge challenged for the IBO World Light Heavyweight Title, however was unsuccessful. Berridge has peeked high as 9th in WBO and 12th in WBA on the world rankings.

Adrian Taihia (15 - 2 - 2) is a former New Zealand (NZPBA Version), WBF Oceania Super Middleweight, WBU Inter-Continental and Interim WBA - PABA Light Heavyweight Champion. Despite all the titles he have won, he has been ranked in any of the four major sanctioning body.

Judgement Day Berridge vs Taihia

A massive undercard is also being put together, including Junior Fa (6 - 0) vs Junior Iakopo (3 - 17 - 2). Junior Fa is well known for being the last person to beat Joseph Parker back in the amateurs (twice) and becoming the Bronze Medalist in 2010 Commonwealth games. Junior Iakopo is very well know for fighting allot of notable boxers including Afa Tatupu, Vaitele Soi, Bowie Tupou, David Aloua, Izuagbe Ugonoh, Nathan Briggs, Alapati A'asa and Hemi Ahio.

Also on the card is a Women’s title fight between Nailini Helu (2 - 0 - 1) vs Cheyenne Whaanga (1 - 0 ). Helu is a three time New Zealand National Amateur Champion and is well regarded as a future world champion. Recently Helu fought for a New Zealand Title last month against Ange Davis, however despite winning the fight, the decision was change to a draw due to a judge's scorecard error calculation. Helu will be fight davis for the vacant NZPBA Heavyweight title again within the next 6 month, in the meantime Helu will face Whaanga for the vacant NZPBA Light Heavyweight Womens title. Whaanga is also a former New Zealand National Amateur Champion, who apparently has defeated Helu back in the amateurs.

Nailini’s younger brother, Panuve Helu will also be on the card, going up against Salo Vui. Panuve Helu is well known for being the boxer to avoid to fight in the ring. With is speed and power, everyone in New Zealand are too scared to step in the ring and fight Helu.

As well as a mass corporate undercard opener, the first pro fight to open the pro card is most likely going to be Mohammed Bashir vs James Uoka.
