Big Daddy Browne is coming to town
Former WBA World Champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (Australia) will take on Junior “Pitbull” Pati (New Zealand) for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver Heavyweight title.
Lucas Browne (26 - 1 - 0) will be fighting for the first time in New Zealand against the Samoan born New Zealander Junior Pati (13 - 22 - 1). Browne, who suffered his first defeat at the hands of Dillian Whyte earlier this year, bounced back in September when he stopped former WBA Oceania champion Julius Long and is now looking to get back into world title contention. A win over Junior Pati would not only give him the WBC ABCO Silver Heavyweight title, but could possibly put him back in the top 40 in the WBC.
Pati, whose style closely resembles that of cousin David Tua, will walk into the fight as the underdog with mixed form of late (his past 8 fights have been 5 - 2 - 1.) Despite his recent record, Pati believes he can win this fight and if he does he will likely earn himself a world top 100 ranking.
On the Main Undercard Hemi Ahio will be taking on Conrad Lam, a battle between two of the most feared heavyweights in New Zealand. Ahio has held two New Zealand titles and the IBO Oriental-Oceania Heavyweight title. With a high Knockout percentage, Ahio was at one point ranked amongst the top 100 heavyweights in the world. Lam, trained by Julius Long, is the biggest boxer in New Zealand today weighing in at over 170 kgs. A hard hitter with serious hand speed, Lam is coming off a defeat from Daniel Tai and will be looking to redeem himself.
Also featuring on the undercard is Navosa “Smiley” Ioata vs Floyd Masson. Navosa Ioata is one of New Zealand's elite boxers. This will be the first New Zealand fight since turning pro for Masson, who was born here but currently resides in Perth. Masson fought as an amateur in New Zealand matching up against some of the biggest names in the country including David Light and Nikolas Charalampous.
Other professional bouts on the undercard include the return of Skope Siaosi (2 - 0 - 0) from injury, taking on elite amateur boxer Jessie Nikora (0 - 1 - 0), Michael Cornelius (3 - 2 - 0) taking on Rob Manual (0 - 5 - 1) and MMA star Cameron Tukua (1 - 0 - 0) taking on pro boxing debutant Semisi Kalu.
