Wellington fight fans have something to look forward to next weekend, as MTI's Capital Punishment returns to Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua for its 47th iteration, with a stacked line-up of 17 boxing and modified Thai kickboxing fights featuring competitors from all over New Zealand. NZ Fighter will be on the scene to report on the action, but for now here is a taste of what's in store.

Mod Thai Fights

In the main event, Fortitude Gym's Brent Sugrue takes on Proactive Christchurch's Charlie Baker at 72kg. Baker, fresh off his first-round TKO victory over Alex Tzinavos for the IKBF South Island Light Middleweight belt, hopes to solidify his position as a top New Zealand fighter at 72kg with a victory next Saturday night. Sugrue defeated Matt Penny via fourth-round TKO in 2018 to become the NZMF North Island 71.5kg Champion under full Thai rules; a title which he still holds. This fight could easily be for a national title; with both men coming conditioned and known for a frenetic pace, over 3 x 2-minute rounds this promises to be an all-out war.

After a convincing victory over a tough opponent at the last Capital Punishment, MTI's Lau'c Taualupe returns to face dauntless kickboxer Nathanial Hastelow, who fights out of the Fight Shop in Palmerston North. Hastelow has been on a roll under the Fight Shop banner so far, racking up 2 wins with a pressure-heavy style. Both of these men come to fight and at 86kg pack some serious power. Don't blink.

After a razor-close IKBF South Island title fight in March, Proactive Christchurch's Kate O'Neill is back with a vengeance, looking to impose her will on MTI's Vivian "Hotpot" Ma, who has a record of 2 wins 0 losses. O'Neill brings a technical kickboxing style and is a step up in competition for Ma, who is eager for the challenge.

MTI's Phil "Tito" Luke returns to the ring, facing Knight MMA's Michael Eaton at 80kg. Luke is an experienced competitor looking to get back in the win column. Eaton is a tough rugby veteran coming off a win in his one boxing fight so far; he has shredded down from 91kg for this fight, and is keen to prove that he belongs in the ring with the likes of Luke.

Two undefeated fighters put their records on the line, as the Lion Pit's Jordan Smart meets Brogan Hancock from the Fight Shop at 69kg. Jordan has amassed 2 victories in kickboxing and 2 in MMA with 1 KO, whereas Hancock has 2 kickboxing victories of his own. Somebody's 0 has got to go.

SMAC Dannevirke's Zair Hussain is matched with MAI Dojo's Patrick Nkunda at 62kg. Both men have winning records which they will look to extend at the other's expense.

Waylon McLean of SMAC Dannevirke fights Corin Braddick of Oliver MMA at 73kg.

Scorpion Thaiboxing's Daniel McWatters faces Serin Edwards of the Fortitude Gym at 88kg.

Boxing Fights

Muay Thai fighter Brit Finucci of MTI looks to continue her success in a transition to boxing, in a match-up with undefeated 10 Count Boxing's Claudia Ellen at 75kg.

MTI's Talei Aldiss hopes to extend her winning record from the last Capital Punishment as she takes on Northland Boxing's Emma Maaka at 62kg.

Sarah Clarke of 10 Count Boxing faces the Fight Shop's Lana McCarthy at 64kg. McCarthy is thus far undefeated with 2 wins, looking to make it 3 next Saturday.

Novice Fights (Padded Shins)

Taani Jr (J's Gym Palmerston North) vs Wehi Walker (Oliver MMA) 95kg.

Dominic Shaw (Knight MMA) vs Matt Croxford (MTI) 70kg.

William Bartlett (MAI Dojo) vs Matt Phillips Rudowski (WN Thaiboxing) 78kg.

Shiva Reddy (He Toa Petone) vs Arama (Alpha Muay Thai) 60kg.

Jackson Thompson (J's Gym Palmerston North) vs Ryan O'Gorman (MTI) 68kg.
