Auimatagi puts the brakes on Foley

Mose Auimatagi Jr takes his first major step to getting a world title opportunity after successfully defeating Australian boxer Kerry Foley for the WBC - OPBF & Interim WBA Oceania Super Middleweight titles. Mose Auimatagi Jr made his professional boxing debut in 2014. Since then he has won a lot of National and minor regional titles.

Mose is a two time New Zealand (NZNBF & NZPBA) Middleweight Champion, UBF Asia Pacific Middleweight Champion and The Force tournament Super Middleweight Champion. He has defeated a lot of credible boxers including Jordan Tai (10-2-0), Reagan Dessaix (6-0-0), Gunnar Jackson (24-7-3), Adrian Taihia (15-3-2) and Morgan Jones (12-0-0) with those numbers being the records at the time he fought them.

As Mose was beating boxers and winning titles, he never got an opportunity to compete for a major regional title (from WBA, WBC, WBO or IBF) to get him going or start to climb the World Body rankings. Once the opportunity came for Mose to take on Kerry Foley on for regional titles in Australia, he gladly accepted. Kerry Foley (19-4-1) a veteran of professional boxing was looking to also capture his first major world title. He is a former Australian National Light Heavyweight Champion. New Zealand boxing fans will remember him from fighting Robert Berridge back in 2014.

The fight only went half the distance as Mose Auimatagi Jr Knocked Kerry Foley out in the 6th round, making him the owner of the major regional titles. This means that Mose will most likely get a rankings spot in either top 40 of WBC or top 15 of WBA, giving him his first step towards the ultimate boxing goal.

In other New Zealand Boxing news, Ashley Campbell defeated Diane Beazley in their rematch. Due to this, it is highly likely that Ashley Campbell will fight Alrie Meleisea for a New Zealand title later in the year. In the main event of that fight, Conrad Lam took on 2010 Commonwealth Representative Semisi Kalu. The fight ended in a controversial draw. The two will most likely have a rematch later in the year.
