Capital Punishment 37 Champion vs Champion

Capital Punishment 37 Champion vs Champion

pre-fight look at the main fight

PETTAWEE SOR KITTICHAI THAILAND CHAMPION VS JOEY BAYLON KITR CHAMPION
 PROFESSIONAL MUAY THAI RULES

The word champion may get thrown around too many times these days. With so many different organisations and multiple weight classes, how can one say they are truly a legit champion? Well, Pettawee Sor Kittichai, and Joey Baylon are as legitimate champions as you can get.

Pettawee Sor Kittichai

This weekend we have a stacked fight card held by MTI, Capital Punishment 37 held at the Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua on the 25th of February, 2017.

We will take a look at the main event’s two fighters and see what to expect from some of the best Muay Thai/ kickboxers in New Zealand.

Pettawee Sor Kittichai is from Thailand, his credentials include being the Rajadamnern Champion, Thailand Champion, and S-1 Champion. Having had over 260 professional fights, he now fights and teaches out of Muay Thai Institute in Wellington.

Joey “The Filipino Kid’ Baylon fights out of Elite Thai Kickboxing, Auckland. He is the current 62 KG, King in The Ring Champion and former WKBF lightweight champion. He has fought some of the best fighters here in New Zealand such as Sone Vannathy, and Alexi Serepisos. His head trainer is former 7 X World Champion in multiple weight classes, a living legend, Jason “Psycho” Suttie.

The fight will be under full Muay Thai rules, that means as well as punches and kicks, it will also include knees, elbows, clinching, and sweeping. It will be 5 rounds, 3 mins each.

This fight was originally meant to be scheduled for last year in September, Capital Punishment 36, but due to unfortunate circumstances the fight had been postponed until now. Both men have an incredibly high fight IQ, and they have kept pretty active since their cancelled showing. Pettawee had taken a fight and won last December. Last month, Joey, had gone to China to compete at the WLF World Champion promotion meaning neither champion will have ring rust coming into this fight.

We asked Pettawee how his training had been going and he says that he has been training hard and that he will be ready to be the best on the day.

Having seen both of these fighters fight before, Pettawee has a very strong clinch game, sweeps, and likes to play to the audience. Joey also has a very exciting style, with unpredictable spinning back fists, and cartwheel kicks. We asked one of the fighters briefly what they can see in their opponent and how they can handle them.

Pettawee says that him, and his team will be well prepared with a game plan, – “Joey is good and is a hard fight. I want to play with power.” – Pettawee.

It could be the toss of the coin here. Pettawee is a former Thai Champion, considering he may have more years of experience specifically in Muay Thai, this may be seen as an advantage. However, on the flip side “The Filipino Kid”, Joey has recently fought internationally, and has competed in both kickboxing and Muay Thai at a very high level. Also like Pettawee, Joey has been involved in 8 men competition. Joey has showed true grit going through multiple fights in one night to be the King in The Ring Champion. It may be a battle of nutrition, endurance, skill, and it may just come down to pure heart.

Aside from his fight, we asked Pettawee what fight he is excited to see? “Other good fights are the main event with Luke Hutchinson and Steve Farrant both are top fighters.” – Pettawee.

This is an event you do not want to miss. We will see these two demonstrate what being a champion is all about, and the promotor had said so many times; watching fights LIVE is the best sporting spectacle in the world.
