Daniel Parkin fights for a new weight title

Nelson boxer Daniel Parkin, former New Zealand boxing representative is back fighting in a new weight division after having to relinquish his light welter-weight title due to a change in his weight class.

Training at the Fighting Fit Boxing Gym in Nelson, Parkin is back fighting for a No1 spot again, this time in the welter-weight division.

Parkin will fight Bowan Morgan at a Pro-am event in Christchurch with the winner earning the top-ranked title. This is not the first time the two

have come head-to-head in the ring, as they fought in the welter-weight division more than 12 months ago, which ended in a point's decision to the more experienced Morgan.

Parkin’s record currently stands at 17 wins, 6 losses and has four major fights scheduled for this year; each with ranking points at stake. The first bout is this weekend, followed by the South Island Golden Gloves, New Zealand Golden Gloves and Oceania trials.

All going well, Parkin has a shot at the Oceania Games representing New Zealand for the second time. This however will depend on him earning enough points for the No1 spot by the end of the year.

The Pro-am is being held at the Addington Raceway, Canterbury tonight April 15, 2010.
