Silver Medal on the last of Commonwealth Youth Games

The Fifth and final day of the Commonwealth Youth games in the Bahamas and one last medal has been won in the boxing Tournament.

Shylah Te Urang Waikai fought in the 51 kgs flyweight women's final this morning, competing against England boxer Chloe Louise Watson. Due to the unlucky drawing of the tournament, this was Waikai 4th fight of the tournament where Watson only had 3.

Waikai fought outstandingly throughout the tournament, dominating her competition. Her first bout she defeated Madumali Eranga Marappuli Henayale from Sri Lanka by 4 -1 Pts. In the Quarterfinals Waikai defeated Helena Ismael Bagao from Mozambique by 5 - 0 Pts, guaranteeing her a medal. In the Semifinals Waikai defeated Megan Elizabeth Gordon from Scotland by 5 - 0 Pts, being the only New Zealander to reach the finals.

Originally reported yesterday that Waikai was going up against Indian boxer Jony, however due to another error to the commonwealth games website, she was actually scheduled to take on Watson.

This morning she fought England boxer Chloe Louise Watson. Unfortunately Waikai lost the bout by 0 - 5 Pts, however she will take home the Silver Medal.
