The New Zealand combat sports scene is on a high at the moment, with soldout shows taking place throughout the country. This Saturday night, it will be Masteron's turn to get a taste of the best Aotearoa has to offer when the Undisputed Fight Series goes down inside the Masterton War Memorial Stadium.
The 14-fight card will feature various disciplines and contain a mixture of fresh faces and hardened veterans. Headlining the event will be will be a professional MMA bout between CKB's Fau Vake and Cage Fight's Grant Toatoa while the co-main event will see New Plymouth MMA's Rhys Izett and Napier Dept's Tiwai Tomoana face off in an amateur MMA contest . The event is already a sell-out, but there will be a live PPV stream on the night.
Promoter Emile Johnson is pleased with the reception the card has gotten from the local fight fans, especially after the careful work that has gone into creating a show that will give fans a night to remember.
"It's a massive buzz having the show sold out. We are running this show to fundraise. We provide free kids classes down here in the Wairarapa, but we also wanted to kit our kids out, so they don't have to pay for it as well," Johnson said, speaking to NZ Fighter.
"To have it sold out means we are able to do that now, and everything else is just a bonus. Having it lived streamed is amazing."
"I'm excited with all the fights. Obviously, my team [Undisputed MMA Wairarapa] is fighting as well. This card we tried our best to have it evenly matched, so we have a good show on. All the MMA fights are going to be elite but then saying that the Thaiboxing fights will be that as well.
"If there is anyone worth watching out for, there is an up and comer fighting out of Undisputed MMA, Corban Mita. He is one to keep an eye out for. Obviously, we have Fau Vake and Grant Toatoa that will be an amazing fight between an up and comer and Grant, who has been a legend out there for a few years fighting and still active. "
Undisputed Fight Series will feature athletes from over a dozen different gyms, making for an electric atmosphere once the action starts. Johnson knows firsthand the skill level of the fighters who will be competing and that of the trainers who will be cornering them on the night.
"Be aware of the brothers coming of Awa Kings; they bring out great fighters all the time, they definitely put on a show, " Johnson commented.
"Team Taniwha Thaiboxing, the brothers up at Turangi, they always put on a show they're amazing. All of the gyms that are coming down it's going to be great. The Napier Fight Dept under legendary coach Tojo, we cannot really say much about that he is great."
The reception that shows such as Undisputed Fight Series receive from both fans and fighters demonstrates the depth of passion and interest within the New Zealand combat scene. This weekend's event looks set to keep the ball rolling for the local scene. Those fortunate enough to get a ticket will no doubt testify to that.
However, if you cannot get along, be sure to purchase the PPV via FightShow.live.
